Welcoming the Greening of the Soul with Hildegard of Bingen.

  • Spirituality Center at Saint Benedict's Monastery 104 Chapel Ln St Joseph, MN, 56374 United States (map)

A women's spring retreat

In this women’s retreat we will focus on Hildegard's key concept of Viriditas, the greening power, life force of all creation. We will learn and explore how this understanding can enrich our own understanding of life and creation and how it speaks into our life across the seasons. We will explore and experience how the idea of Viriditas resonates with our lives and life stories, and the nourishment it can provide to our souls. We will be guided in studying and invited to embody this concept in various practices. While participating in the retreat, we will take part in the rhythm of the monastery, participate in the daily prayers, sharing meals, learning, reading, reflecting, journaling, contemplating, but also rejuvenating, laughing, resting and walking.

The retreat starts on Friday 7:30 pm and ends on Sunday at 3pm. Our learning will be structured by a series of questions and explorations, e.g.: What does a mystic voice from the 12th century have to say to us about our place in the world, our soul's journey, our longing for healing and wholeness, as well as our care for God's people and the earth? More personally, what can Hildegard's wisdom provide for our own soul’s nourishment?

So, if you are looking for a special treat at Mother's Day weekend, or perhaps you are a woman who has mothered children, or given birth to ideas, or a woman who is longing for a mother figure like Hildegard, or simply a woman who needs to get away from the buzz, this retreat might be for you.
